Crime is tackled most effectively when local people work together with the police and other criminal justice agencies- this is what Louise Casey, the Government Crime and Justice Advisor found when she looked at how crime could be better tackled in this country last year. The Community Crime Fighters programme was announced by the Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, in September 2008. It aims to develop stronger links between crime – fighting agencies and the communities they serve. Community Crime Fighters are members of the public who are already actively involved in their communities and want to do or know more.
Community Crime Fighters training began in December 2008 and to date over 1,500 local activists have taken part in the programme. Those people coming along to the training found it very useful.
- 73% said their training was helpful in their contact with police, council anti-social behaviour team or other criminal justice organisation
- 92% said that as a result of the training they felt better prepared to play a role in helping to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in their area
The Community Crime Fighters training provides an opportunity to learn:
- What the Policing Pledge means locally
- The tools and powers local authorities could and should be using to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime
- The help provided to victims and witnesses of crime and anti-social behaviour
- Ways to get the best out of local crime fighting agencies
If you are interested in learning more about the above then please register to attend one of the FREE events below.
