Altrincham Police Pose as Burglars

Altrincham police posed as burglars as they patrolled Hale Barns looking for unlocked doors and windows last week. More than 1,000 properties were visited by officers from the Altrincham Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) on 1st July to warn against the dangers of insecurity-related burglaries, which tend to increase in the summer.

A business selling vacuum cleaners is intensively leafleting houses in Chorley, distributing raffle tickets to win a Nissan Micra or a free carpet shampoo. Customers who give their details on the raffle tickets may then be contacted and informed they have won a free carpet shampoo. During the visit to carry this out, they will be subject to a sales pitch for an expensive vacuum cleaner costing between £1,000 and £2,000.
